The Steam Railroading Institute (SRI) is seeking an inspiring, hands-on Executive Director to lead a volunteer centric nonprofit that operates a railroad artifact with nationwide visibility: Locomotive 1225. The Executive Director will guide a small team of staff and dedicated volunteers, champion fundraising and capital development efforts, and serve as a visible ambassador within the community and with key partners, including railroads and local governments. Ideal candidates bring strong leadership, volunteer recruitment/management/recognition, nonprofit management, and development expertise, with a passion for preservation, public engagement, and operational excellence. Salary range is $75k-$90k, DOE, generous PTO, health and retirement.

Seasonal Part-time Positions – Steam Railroading Institute (Owosso, Michigan)

The Steam Railroading Institute seeks to fill two seasonal positions to support the North Pole Express excursion trains for 2026. The period of employment is from Friday, November 20, 2026, through Monday, December 21, 2026. A three-day work week for these positions begins on Friday and works through Sunday. At the end of the excursion calendar there is an additional day of work on Monday, December 21, 2026, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm for winterizing and final rail car and welcome center cleaning.
