The Steam Railroading Institute (SRI) of Owosso, Michigan is excited to announce a series of summer events as part of the 2022 schedule! These open house experiences will take place at the Institute for the whole family to learn and enjoy.

Yard Goat Caboose Rides | July 23 and August 13

Take a short ride on historic cabooses for an educational experience aboard SRI’s Yard Goat Demonstration Train! Learn what it took in the golden age of railroading to keep the busy train yards operating like clockwork when the little switcher engines, known as “yard goats,” worked tirelessly around the clock that continues to this very day.

Christmas in July | July 23

Already dreaming of a white Christmas? Take the night off from the summer heat and join the Steam Railroading Institute for the second annual Christmas in July! This free event will offer an open house experience featuring miniature train rides, the Yard Goat Caboose Rides, a visit from Santa Claus, a nighttime screening of THE POLAR EXPRESS™, and more!

Trains & Tractors | August 13

Surround yourself with antique tractors, historic trains, vintage equipment and so much more as Trains & Tractors returns to the Steam Railroading Institute! Experience the commemoration of the role the railroad and farm industry served for Michigan’s agriculture that continues to this day during this free, open-house event.

In addition to the summer events, the Steam Railroading Institute continues to remain open to the public during normal visiting hours-Fridays and Saturdays, from 10am to 4pm-until the end of September. The non-profit educational organization is also in the process of planning future events and excursions for the remainder of the year. Preparations are currently underway for the 2022 North Pole Express with ticket sales to be announced soon.
